Extra benefits are add-ons that private Medicare Advantage plans may offer, funded by the savings the plan generates. Availability and value vary widely by plan and location. Because extra benefits change annually, reviewing your plan each year matters — benefits that applied last year may have changed.
- Dental: Routine cleanings, X-rays, extractions, and sometimes major work like crowns or dentures.
- Vision: Routine eye exams and an allowance toward glasses or contact lenses.
- Hearing: Hearing exams and an allowance toward hearing aids.
- OTC allowance: A quarterly credit for over-the-counter health products — pain relievers, vitamins, supplies.
- Transportation: Rides to and from medical appointments, covered by some plans.
Who it is for
Extra benefits are only available through Medicare Advantage plans — you cannot add them to Original Medicare or a Supplement plan.
